The Meals on Wheels Program in LaSalle, Putnam, and Bureau Counties provides nutritious meals to older adults and others in need who are homebound because of illness, physical or mental impairment, unable to prepare food independently, or otherwise isolated. The Meals on Wheels program has been a part of Voluntary Action Center since 2003. During lunchtime, the meals are prepared in Voluntary Action Center’s kitchens and delivered in LaSalle, Putnam, and Bureau Counties.

A Registered Dietitian approves menus for nutritious meals. Nutrition assessments are completed regularly to update nutritional needs. A monthly menu is available so recipients know what will be served. Meals for special events, such as a monthly birthday meal recognizing those who have birthdays that month, holidays, and recognition days such as Memorial Day, are also noted on our menu. Meals are provided on a donation schedule based on income. No senior is refused a meal for inability or unwillingness to donate.

Meal delivery schedule varies by area; for the schedule in your community, call Voluntary Action Center at 815-883-3630. The Meals on Wheels driver delivers the meals and makes personal contact with each client to ensure their safety and well-being.
