DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANT (Sycamore Location)

Voluntary Action Center is seeking a Development Assistant with 2 years of experience in development, fund-raising and/or special event planning.  This position offers administrative support to the organization’s development function and assists executive management with the planning and execution of fundraising events and promotion of the agency.  General tasks include managing and updating donor databases, preparing mailing materials including mail solicitation and thank you letters; and performing a variety of tasks assisting senior management and the Board of Directors in its resource development activities.

This is position is full-time, with occasional overtime, including evenings, weekends, and odd hours.  Occasional travel of distance may be required.  Candidates must be at least 21 years of age, valid excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to establish and to maintain effective working relationships with all employees, volunteers, donors, and the public required.

Nutrition Careers

KITCHEN MANAGER (Sycamore location)

VAC has been the nutrition provider for the DeKalb County Corrections Facility since 1994 and has recently expanded operations into the new County Jail site. We are seeking a Kitchen Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the kitchen. Duties include cooking meals, kitchen sanitation, planning meals, record keeping, training new staff, ensuring quality customer service, and maintaining efficient use of kitchen inventory. Must be flexible and available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays on a rotation basis. Candidates must have at least 2 years’ experience managing in a commercial kitchen environment, including supervisory experience over direct reports, have excellent communication skills, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all employees, government officials, and the public. Illinois food sanitation certification required within 90 days of hire. Must pass background check process.

Transportation

BUS OPERATORS (Sycamore location)

VAC is hiring FT and PT transit bus operators. Must be at least 21 years of age, excellent driving record, excellent communication skills, knowledge of areas surrounding region. CDL w/endorsements required within 30 days of hire. Excellent benefits. No experience necessary, but customer service experience and driving experience pluses. DISPATCH SUPERVISOR (Sandwich location)

We are seeking a full-time Dispatch Supervisor to oversee the daily implementation of VAC’s transportation program schedules and dispatch systems in our Sandwich, Il, location. The Dispatch Supervisor assists in planning, organizing, and overseeing the daily operations and activities of the agency’s community transportation programs. This position focuses on achieving program stability by ensuring that staff operates in the most efficient, safe, productive, and cost-effective manner. Must demonstrate good judgment; an ability to be approachable and professional; solid problem-solving skills; an ability to handle multiple tasks; and an ability to be self-motivated and well organized. Knowledge of Community and public transportation system operations, including principles of organization, routing, and scheduling. 

This is a full-time, FTA safety-sensitive position with occasional overtime, including evenings, weekends, and odd hours.  Occasional travel of distance may be required.  Candidates must be at least 21 years of age, have excellent communication skills and the ability to establish and to maintain effective working relationships with all employees, officials, and the public required. Ability to pass a physical and drug screening is required. Must meet the medical requirements in accordance with the FMCSR (49 CFR 391.41-391.49).  Must have CDL or have the ability to obtain CDL within 90 days.

Internship Opportunities

ADMINISTRATION INTERN (Sycamore location, others potential)

VAC is seeking an Administration Intern to support the programs and services of the Agency. This can/will consist of working in various departments to obtain a global perspective of the Agency, including special projects coordination, grant evaluation, training & e-learning, non-profit support services, communications, resource management, donor services, human resources, and information management.  The intern will receive a well-rounded experience of the various facets of a non-profit foundation and will also gain a valuable working relationship with numerous non-profit, governmental, and community organizations. No experience necessary, but customer service experience a plus. A candidate for this internship must be enrolled in a higher education degree program with an accredited higher learning institution.
