Summer Meals Program

The Summer Meals Program is a USDA funded program administered by the Illinois State Board of Education to provide free nutritious meals and snacks for children from low income families during the summer months when there is no school. Voluntary Action Center is a Sponsor of the Summer Meals Program in DeKalb County .

During the months of June, July and August, meals are prepared by Voluntary Action staff for several local summer camp programs. Those camps that participate in the Summer Meals Program in DeKalb County include the DeKalb Park District’s Camp Discover, KSRA’s Camp Maple Leaf,  YMCA,  Cortland Library,  Camp Power at University Village and Basketball Camp at NIU Anderson Hall. The Summer Meals Program prepares and delivers an average of 500 meals per day.

Four of the Summer Meals Sites are open to anyone 18 years and younger with no reservations required.

Kishwaukee YMCA serving Monday – Friday 12:00 – 12:30 PM

Camp Power at University Village serving Monday – Friday 11:30 am – Noon

NIU- Anderson Hall serving Monday – Thursday 3:00 – 3:30 pm

Cortland Library serving every Thursday  12:00 – 1:00  pm
