A MATTER OF BALANCE-Managing Concerns About Falls

A Matter of Balance is an evidence based workshop for individuals, 60 or older, that emphasizes practical strategies to manage falls. Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities. A MATTER OF BALANCE is an award-winning program designed to manage falls and increase activity levels. The next workshop will run once a week from Tuesday July 9th, 2019 – Tuesday September 3, 2019 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm at Club 55 located at 330 Grove St. DeKalb. Volunteer Open House
Thursday February 21st, 2019 2:30-4:30pm The DeKalb Community Center located @ 330 Grove St. DeKalb

The Volunteer Open House is open to those interested in learning more about our programs and volunteer opportunities as well as all current volunteers wanting to share their experiences such as delivering Meals on Wheels. Light refreshments will be served with a short presentation on VAC programs and available volunteer opportunities.

Meals for Moms
The Annual Meals for Moms Luncheon will be held Monday, May 6th, 2019 at St. Mary’s Memorial Hall in Sycamore.  This special event fundraiser is held the Monday before Mother’s Day and gives the community an opportunity to enjoy lunch with their mom, or maybe dad, siblings, friends or even the boss! Local “Celebrity” serve lunch catered by VAC’s very own Premier Catering in a beautiful atmosphere with a raffle of fresh potted plants and musical entertainment.  The proceeds from this event benefit Voluntary Action Center’s Meals on Wheels program. Thomas F. Zucker Memorial Golf Outing
The Annual VAC Golf Outing will be held Friday, September  13th, 2019 at The River Heights Golf Club at 1020 Sharon Dr., DeKalb.  The event was renamed the Thomas F Zucker Memorial Golf Outing in 2015 after the sudden passing of Voluntary Action Center’s Executive Director Tom Zucker.  The Golf Outing has become a highly anticipated event for local golfers and supporters of the Voluntary Action Center.  Golfer registration begins at 11:00 am on September 13th with a boxed lunch provided.  A Shot Gun start follows at 12:00 pm with an Appetizer Reception immediately following golf.  A short program will be held during the reception to recognize our donors along with a Silent Auction and Raffle.  A number of prizes will also be awarded to golfers during the appetizer reception.

Emergency Meal Kit Distribution
Every winter Voluntary Action Center provides Emergency Meal Kits to Meals on Wheels clients in DeKalb County. Each Kit contains 3 meals of non-perishable, shelf-stable food to have on hand in case of bad weather.  With your help, we can provide kits for all seniors in need.

Christmas Purse Project
VAC will host the Christmas Purse Project once again this year.  The project was established to brighten the day for many victims of Domestic Violence and Sexual assault in DeKalb County. Each year the support from our community grows showing us what a great community we live in!  VAC will collect purses filled with small gift items until December 17th, 2018 to donate to Safe Passage. Small gift items such as toiletries, gift cards, jewelry, gloves or other trinkets of your choosing are also accepted.  Click here for more information

Annual Membership Drive
Voluntary Action Center gives community members an opportunity to donate to our organization through an annual membership drive. The membership drive is held in the fall. The monetary donations from this drive support the Voluntary Action Center’s Meals on Wheels and Transportation programs.
