2018 Strategic Plan

The Voluntary Action Center was incorporated in 1974.  In 2018, VAC will turn 44 years old, middle age, and we felt it was time to create some new goals for the organization.  The last official strategic plan was done in 1999, and then updated over the years.

Strategic planning involves examining an organization’s mission, values, and vision; defining goals to address important issues; and then directing resources to pursue those goals. This strategic planning process will be facilitated by Dr. Alicia Schatteman, an associate professor of nonprofit management from Northern Illinois University but it is really the people of this organization who will drive what the organization needs to look like in the years ahead.

We are asking all board members, staff, volunteers, and community partners to contribute their thoughts and ideas by completing a brief online survey (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/VAC2018).  You may also receive an email about this survey so we are asking you to complete just one survey.  Complete the survey at your earliest convenience and all responses are anonymous.  Paper copies will also be available at VAC.  All responses will be summarized and presented at a future Board meeting.  From there, the organization will determine the key issues to focus their plan on and setting some strategic goals.   If you have any questions about the strategic planning process, please contact Alicia Schatteman aschatteman@niu.edu or 815-753-0942.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation and insights.
